Name: Nathalie Arbour PhD
Affiliation: Full Professor
Department of Neuroscience,
Université de Montreal, Canada
Head of Neuroscience Research Theme,
Research Center of the Montreal University Hospital Center (CRCHUM)
Nathalie Arbour obtained her PhD in Virology-Immunology at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier. She subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute and the Montreal Neurological Institute. Dr Arbour joined the Université de Montréal and the CRCHUM in 2006. She currently leads the CRCHUM’s Neuroscience Research Theme. The overreaching goal of her research program is to identify and characterize the immune mechanisms which contribute to the CNS inflammation especially in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS). Her research strategy is to first identify molecules and pathways that are specifically altered in samples obtained from MS patients, and then investigate the mechanistic impact of these molecules using human primary cultures of immune and CNS cells. Finally, using relevant mouse models of MS, her team confirms and dissects the role of these mechanisms in MS pathobiology and test in vivo strategies to correct these altered factors, effectively validating them as bona fide therapeutic targets.
